The brilliant international bestseller reissued in the new Kelley Armstrong cover style. I was expecting to miss out on the recipes that are in the books, but the unabridged is truly that! The recipes are on the audio, how cool is that? I loved it! The narrator, Suzanne Toren, is terrific. However, this was my first time listening to the series. I really enjoy the Hannah Swenson Mysteries. I'm not going to rehash the book or the series. When it happens, Hannah intends be there-ready to rewrite a killer's lethal script with the kind of quirky ending that can only happen in Lake Eden. As filming continues, Hannah sifts through the clues, hoping against hope that the person responsible for Dean's death is half-baked enough to have made a mistake. She stirs lots of fresh gossip, whipping up treats for cast and crew, including demanding director Dean Lawrence's favorite-cherry cheesecake.Įverything's on schedule until Dean demonstrates a suicide scene with a prop gun that turns out to be all too real. The Cookie Jar serves as snack central with Main Street rented out for the week. Movie mania soon shoves Hannah's marriage dilemma into the background and even gives her cat a shot at stardom. Hannah Swensen and her bakery, The Cookie Jar, bask in the glow of Hollywood glamour when Main Street becomes a movie set. You never realize how handy names are in fiction until nobody has one. And later someone else is referred to by that title. But then later he gets a promotion and a different title. For a while, Genji is called “the Commander”. There are multiple people referred to as “Her Highness”, for example, and you have to pay close attention to know which one is being referred to in any given case. The problem is that Tyler’s translation refers to characters by title. Welp, I slogged through half the Tyler translation in a kind of fog reminiscent of how I felt when I read Kafka’s Trial. According to Wikipedia, Tyler has the most explanatory notes and is the most faithful in terms of style. I did a bit of reading online when trying to choose which translation to read for the Hungry Hundred Book Club meetup in January. What’s wrong with Royal Tyler’s Tale of Genji? If you have never read The Tale of Genji, my advice is, DON’T START WITH TYLER.
